Mercedes S500 Coupe rent in Dubai, coupe basically, a two-door, four-seat variant of the S-Class, replacing the now-defunct CL. Initially available as an S63 AMG with a 5.5-litre biturbo V8 and 582bhp, there’s also an S65 with a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 and 621bhp, and a 4.6-litre S 500 equipped with another biturbo V8 with 450bhp. Suffice to say, these isn’t a weak S-Class Coupe.
Mercedes S class coupe AMG refers to the range as the ‘supreme pinnacle’ of Benzness, and the S Coupe certainly has enough tech to qualify the tagline. From 47 Swarovski crystals in the headlights to every kind of ‘Assist’ function M-B could think of, there’s enough computing power in this thing to operate a small capital city.
At over five metres long and two wide, this isn’t a small car. But programmable air-suspension helps keep everything as taut as the slick looks suggest, and if you tick the right boxes, Mercedes’ Magic Body Control with Curve Tilting Function will actually lean the S Coupe into corners like a motorbike. It’s not for speed – there’s a ‘sport’ function for that into which the system defaults – but for comfort. And it really works – keeping the car straight and level even during high-speed direction changes.
Trouble is, even though there’s mighty performance on offer from pretty much any variant, the S is more adept at rapid distance-demolishing rather than joyous switchbacks – you can feel the electronics helping deliver astonishing grip and keeping it all together, which is both comforting and slightly annoying for a keen driver. There’s even Stop and Go Pilot, which takes care of steering, throttle and brakes in heavy traffic. This is an autonomous car in all but name and insurance liability.
The all-wheel-drive S63’s puissant powertrain is further improved by the addition of a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Like the prior seven-speed unit, the nine-speed gearbox does without a torque converter. Instead, a multiplate clutch serves as the coupling between the engine and the transmission. Whereas the previous transmission was prone to imprecise clutch engagement and occasional clunky, lurching low-speed behavior, the new nine-speed transmission engages with near torque-converter fluidity time and time again. It made no difference if we were sitting in stop-and-go traffic or using the launch-control system to rocket to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds—a full second ahead of the standard S560 coupe (which uses a version of the S63’s 4.0-liter) and 0.7 second quicker than the S63 coupe with the previous 5.5-liter V-8. This 4784-pound coupe also beats the 1103-pound-lighter rear-drive Mercedes-AMG GT R to the mile-a-minute mark by 0.2 second.
